Bali’s leaders hope to complete the new Bali Urban Rail Metro Line by 2028. There is much work to do in the next four years. Leaders are working diligently behind the scenes to push progress on this long-awaited project.

The Badung Regional Secretary, I Wayan Adi Arnawa, mentioned that the first phase of the metro line’s groundbreaking and foundation building will start in September 2024. He expects the line to be operational by 2028, enhancing the appeal of property for sale in Bali.

Arnawa confirmed that the groundbreaking plans and targets for MRT Bali have been decided by the provincial, city, and district governments. They collaborated with PT Sarana Bali Dwipa Jaya.

He explained that the project will be completed gradually. The first stage is targeted for completion by 2028.

Arnawa highlighted the benefits of the project. It will minimize land use on the surface compared to roads. He emphasized that Bali’s limited area and small size must be preserved to maintain its identity and panorama. This is an attractive aspect for those looking to buy property in Bali.

Investors secured

Investors for the project have been secured. An official announcement is expected next week. The final budgeting process is underway. Investors have been requested to ensure all agreements and paperwork are ready by the end of this month. Groundbreaking is planned for September.

After years of speculation and slow progress, things are now moving quickly. The confirmation of investor participation and the start date in September follows a meeting called by Acting Governor Sang Made Mahendra Jaya. During this meeting, bids were formally submitted for the Bali Urban Rail and associated facilities.

In late May, Acting Governor Jaya stated that the event marked a new milestone in developing transportation infrastructure in Bali. He highlighted the construction and development of tourism corridors. These corridors will have train-based mass public transportation systems through a business-to-business investment model.

With funding on the way, Arnawa stressed the importance of managing the large budget with diligence. He asked for community support to ensure the project runs smoothly. The aim is to resolve traffic jams in Badung and Bali in general. This could enhance the attractiveness of property for sale in Bali.

Arnawa noted that the project would boost tourism in the Badung Regency area by reducing traffic congestion. Badung Regency includes top Bali resorts such as Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Uluwatu, and Nusa Dua. These areas are also prime locations for those looking to buy property in Bali.

While popular with tourists, traffic congestion is a significant issue. It affects both visitors and residents.

As reported in February 2024, the Bali Urban Rail Metro system aims to offer frequent trains. This will help keep tourists flowing through Bali’s busiest resorts. This could potentially increase the demand for Bali property for sale.

The Head of the Bali Transportation Service, Gede Wayan Samsi Gunarta, mentioned that the capacity of the metro service is being designed.

Gunarta revealed that they are calculating the number of seats and operational times. They aim to have trains running at least every 15 minutes.

Initial concept maps show that the Bali Urban Rail Network will eventually comprise six lines, including a tramway. The first metro line, Line 1, will connect Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport with Kuta Beach, Central Parking, Legian, Seminyak, Seminyak Intersection, and onwards to Kerobokan and North Denpasar.

The second line will be a circular route connecting Bali Airport with the resorts of Benoa, Sanur, and Sindhu. It will circle back towards Denpasar through Renon and Monument. It will continue south and southwest towards Bonjol Square, Central Parking, Kuta, and then the airport again. This comprehensive network is set to enhance the island’s infrastructure.
